Don’t Let Limited Mobility Stop You From Being Active

There is a misconception that limited mobility means being active is over. Even with physical conditions that make things more challenging, there are still exciting activities for people with limited mobility.

  • Indoor Gardening
    • Creating an indoor countertop garden full of herbs is a positive activity for people who struggle with bending.
  • Music
    • Whether creating or listen to music, this hobby can be used to enhance both physical and mental health for people of all ages and abilities.
  • Reading
    • Reading is a great way to improve brain function. Reading also allows  imagination to take people to places and times that can’t be reached physically.
  • Indoor Games
    • Playing games such as checkers, sudoku, chess, or board games can provide social and mental growth.
  • Water Aerobics
    • Water aerobics is a low impact exercise that can help improve stamina, joint pain, or lack of balance.
  • Textile Arts
    • Knitting, crocheting, and sewing can be rewarding. You have an accomplishment when done. This can be done at one’s own pace, and projects are only limited by imagination.
  • Spending time outdoors
    • Just sitting on the porch is a great mood booster.  With fresh air to breath and small tasks like bird watching, viewing scenery, or enjoying company outdoor sitting can be a relaxing activity.

These are just a few examples of how a little research, creativity or know-how can add activity to lives, even where there is limited mobility.
